Small story about the “Tapas”

History tells us that Tapas originated in the XIII century under the rule of Alfonso X King “The Wiseman” (Spain). Due to a disease he had, the doctor recommended him to drink sips of wine during the day. The King, in order to counteract the effects of the alcohol, ate small snacks with the wine. Once he recovered from the disease, he enacted a law that ordered all the taverns to serve some food with the wine in order to reduce the effects of the alcohol. The small food platter was served on top of the glass of wine, so the food acted as a cover, in Spanish “Tapa.” This is the origin of the word “Tapas” which is plural for “Tapa.”
